Sugar and spice

Do you remember this nursery rhyme:

There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very very good,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

That about sums up Li'il Sis.

Just yesterday, as I gave her a bath in the morning, she sighed as I started scrubbing her and said, "This is the life!" She can be very sweet and often says the funniest things. As my sister describes her, she's a joyous child.

But she's got a mean streak, too. Last night, Big Sis came to me crying and holding her throat. Her face was red from crying and she complained that L'il Sis had kicked her in the neck. Nice.

I recite that poem to Hannah all the time.

Liza has the curl and the mean streak. I'm pretty sure they grow out of it. I hope. Two sides of the same coin.. extreme joy and extreme frustration. Children of extremes.

I do remember that one, but somehow I think we're probably the only ones teaching it to the kids anymore. Probably considered not nice to call a little girl horrid and all that silly stuff. ;)
