...or at least that's how it felt.
I went in to get waxed today and the technician talked me into trying threading. I'd heard of it but hadn't tried it and, admittedly, was curious to try it. Really, could it be any worse than having hot wax rubbed into your face only to have it ripped off moments later, taking hair and probably some of your epidermis with it? So I nervously said okay.
Holy ouch, Batman! It felt like my face was being attacked by tiny little knives! Hmm... is it supposed to feel like that? Or am I just a total wuss? Or just a hairy wuss? By the time the thread-wielding technician reached my lip, my eyes were welling with tears. (What really added insult to injury was the fact that I abetted in my own assault while she was attacking my eyebrows by holding my eyelid down and pulling my forehead up during part of the process.)
But the sickest part of the whole experience... while it was happening, I was thinking, "I'm so gonna blog about this!"
Anybody else out there try this method of hair removal? And, if so, what did you think? I liked the result but am not so sure I'm willing to go through that again.

I'm surprised that it hurt. I heard that threading is "all the rage" right now and supposed to be better than waxing. However, considering the litte town I live in I don't think there's anywhere around here to try it. From your story, I think I'll stick to the painful waxing!
Oooh! My Egyptian roommate that I lived with a couple years ago did my eyebrows. It twinged a little, but it really did a great job. I would like to learn how to do it myself so I don't have to tweeze. She would do her face herself.
I am totally under a rock when it comes to beauty treatments, so I have no idea what threading is.
However, I'd had my lip waxed twice, and both times I jumped about two feet in the air as they ripped the strip. I'm just happy the hair is thinner and takes longer to grow back now, I'm hoping I can stop doing it entirely. :)
I've seen it done and it looks like you'd have to be incredibly skilled to do it. I'm amazed anyone can do it. But the girl I saw getting threaded did not seem to flinch at all. Perhaps your tech was a newbie?
Waxing takes less skill but is cheaper (and available here!). I'd have to go to Oklahoma City for threading.
I've seen it done...there is a place in our mall that does it (right in the middle of the mall, out in the open, even), but those women run the threads through their mouths...no thank you. I do my own waxing of brows and upper lip anyway...cheaper, and since I'm dishing out the pain, I can't blame anyone but me!
Meredith,
I wasn't flinshing but I had quite the inner monologue going!
Linda,
I tried the DIY waxing thing but found I'm way too much of a wuss to do it properly!
I haven't tried threading, I will stick to have my eyebrows waxed. I did make the mistake of getting my legs and a bikini wax done before Hawaii. I was screaming, the little Vietnamese girl was terrified--never again!
I did get laser done on my armpits and after 6 treatments, I haven't shaved my pits in months. I love it!
Ouch! I have never had that done, but I have seen it being done in the mall. Like Linda said, it is right out in the middle of everything. The ladies who are having it done never look too uncomfortable, but I can't imagine it wouldn't. Yikes!
Threading is about the only way that I can remove facial hair without breaking out for a week and a half. It hurts a lot more than waxing ever did, but is worth it to me. I miss my old stylist pre-military and I'm headed back to hickville in about a month, but will be on the lookout for someone who does threading about an hour away. Oh the things we do for beauty!
